Tony Gould, one of Australia's most respected musicians, received the Don Banks Music Award in February, the country's most valuable individual music prize.
Gould is a pianist and composer whose career has embraced many styles of music, including jazz and improvisation through to traditional and contemporary classical music.
The former head of the School of Music at the Victorian College of the Arts, he has been at the forefront of music education via various tertiary institutions in Melbourne and throughout Australia. He resigned from the VCA in 2005 to renew his passion for a hands-on approach to music-making in performance, composition and writing.
